Uncollected Child Policy

How Little Ducklings approaches this area of care, safety, and everyday practice in Baddeley Green, Stoke-on-Trent.

Back to all policies

Please collect your child at the agreed time or let me know as early as possible if you are delayed. I will release a child only to their parent or an adult the parent has authorised and whose identity I can check. If an adult appears too unwell, intoxicated or threatening to collect safely, I will keep the child safe and follow my safeguarding procedure.

If nobody arrives

  • I will continue to supervise, reassure and meet the child's needs. The child will not be left alone or transported home without prior agreement.
  • I will repeatedly try every parent/carer number and then authorised emergency contacts, recording the time and outcome of each attempt.
  • If contact cannot be made within a reasonable period, or earlier where circumstances create concern, I will seek advice from Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Front Door on 01782 235100 or the Emergency Duty Team on 01782 234234 out of hours. I will contact police on 999 for immediate danger or 101 for a welfare concern as advised.
  • I will follow agency instructions. I will not release the child to an unauthorised person or leave them at an address without a responsible authorised adult.

Follow-up

I will record what happened, every contact attempt and any advice in ChildLogs. When it is safe, I will talk it through with the parent and check that emergency contacts and collection plans are still right. Repeated late collection may lead to a contract review and a late fee only if the contract allows it. I will contact Integrated Front Door or Ofsted when the circumstances require it.
